Ao ibukia raora ake a roko mai Abatera:
If I can now turn our attention to our esteemed participants from abroad and
express our sincere appreciation for their presence with us today. Your presence
indicates your keen interest to contribute to our deliberations and assist us in the
implementation of securing our coastal fisheries resources. The theme for this
summit “Securing our Coastal Fisheries Resources for the Prosperity” of our own
people, speaks about the Ministry’s vision to ensure sustainable fisheries for better
lives and thus increase people’s wealth. Equally important is to ensure that coastal
resources are sustainably managed for our present and more importantly our
future generation.
Gathered here this week, your tasks are to contribute to the development of our
coastal fisheries resources to higher levels. I challenge you not to confine your
thinking to coastal resources in their entirety but link them to the importance of
maintaining the health of the ocean, sustainable harvesting, external factors such
as international markets and ways to consistently contribute to this market. We
need to maintain and increase our links to lucrative markets, linking Kiribati Island
to markets abroad.
With those few remarks, allow me to bestow upon each and every one of us
present here today, our Kiribati traditional blessing of Te Mauri (Good Health), Te
Raoi (Peace) ao Te Tabomoa (Prosperity).
In closing, I now declare this Coastal Fisheries Summit officially open.
Allow me in my local language to do likewise.
Man au taeka tabeua aikanne, ao I a kukurei n taekina ba e a uki ami maroro n te
tai aio a bween waami ana kariri ao ana kakabwaia te Atua are ngaia ae e angaiira
ara marawa ae e rangin bubura aei.
